What IS Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
Personalized care tailored to meet the needs of you and your family
Imagine this: you and your children see the same doctor for every visit, communicate directly with that doctor, and have access when you need it.

Top 3 Reasons to switch to Direct Primary Care
01
No Middle Man
By removing insurance companies from the doctor-patient relationship, doctors and patients get to be in charge of healthcare decisions. Wouldn’t you rather directly pay a doctor to serve in your best interest than pay an insurance company, whose main purpose is to deny care? Supporting a local small business is an added bonus.
02
Peace of Mind
When you DO need a doctor, you’ll actually be able to get an appointment when you need it, and it will be with someone who actually knows you. If you can avoid even one Emergency Room or Urgent Care visit, the money you save will pay for an entire year’s membership and then some. Similar to payment models commonly seen with gym memberships, car insurance, Netflix, and AAA access, with Direct Primary Care, you are paying for access so that when you do have a medical need, the care is as easy and affordable as possible and with someone who already knows you and who you have a relationship with. The typical insurance-based doctor has 2,000 or more patients and sees up to 25 patients in a day. That’s why you can’t get an appointment, reach your doctor, and wait for 45-minutes in the waiting room. We offer same and next day appointments, return text messages, and offer longer appointments with no waiting. We can do this because we close off our panel to new members long before quality or accessibility of care is affected.
03
Affordable & Predictable
Payments are spread out over time, giving you consistent and reliable access to your physician. With traditional insurance, you pay hundreds or thousands per month and often can’t even get in to see the doctor when you need to. With DPC, we are able to offer superior care at a much more reasonable price.
More Personalized Options Available
House Calls

As needed, current members may request an in-home visit. A fee will be assessed for each in-home visit once a member or member family has utilized their allotted number of as needed home visits over the preceding 365 day period.
Newborn Membership

Avoid the germs and inconvenience of a traditional medical office with our 4th trimester package, tailor made for our tiniest members. Your very own board-certified pediatrician will do a house call shortly after the baby is born, and she will return to examine the baby 3 more times over the first 60 days of life. Each unhurried appointment allows time for your personal physician to answer any new parent questions you have. Additionally, the new mom and dad will have direct 24/7 access to Dr. Cameron via text, phone, and telemedicine for any question or concerns that may arise.
The perfect gift for expecting parents

Elderly, Home Bound, and End of Life Care

For patients who have challenges getting in and out of the home, a charge may be added to the standard monthly membership fee to allow for up to 1 house call with your Internist each month.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why would I pay a monthly fee if I already have health insurance?
At traditional primary care offices, you will often have a co-pay and may even have an office visit charge just to see your doctor. These charges occur on top of the insurance premium you are already paying each month, and that doesn’t even include blood work, additional testing, or procedures completed during the visit.
What age groups do you see?
Dr. Cameron is both an Internal Medicine doctor AND a Pediatrician. As an Internist, she specializes in caring for adults. As a pediatrician, of course, she specializes in caring for children. She has had extensive training in the management of newborns, children, adolescents, and adults with acute illnesses, chronic disease, and more complex, multisystem processes affecting hospitalized patients. Dr. Cameron is therefore able to provide care for patients from newborns to elderly adults and everywhere in between.
Would I benefit from DPC if I’m healthy and hardly ever go to the doctor?
At some point, you may be sick or injured and need acute medical care. Other times, you may have a medical question but don’t have anyone to ask. When situations like these arise, you will have immediate access to your personal doctor who knows your complete medical history and can take your specific situation into account when developing a treatment plan. A DPC membership allows access to your physician for acute complaints, aiming to prevent costly, and sometimes unnecessary, trips to the ER or Urgent Care.
Are your services covered by my insurance?
No. The DPC model allows the physician to work directly with the patient. No middleman making all the rules. No insurance company to impose arbitrary and tedious measures aimed at increasing their profits.
What if I decide to continue my current insurance policy? Can I use it?
Not for our services. You can use your insurance for lab tests, imaging, referrals to a specialists, and for medications. We do not do any billing of insurance, and insurance does not play a role in paying your membership fee.
What if I don’t want to become a member? Can I still be seen?
Unfortunately, no. Our one-time fee would be comparable to a 4-6 month membership. It would therefore be more cost-effective to go ahead and sign up as a new member and receive at least 4-6 months of medical care.
Do you offer care outside of normal business hours?
Non-urgent matters will primarily be addressed during normal business hours, however if you have an emergent situation arise overnight or on a weekend and are trying to decide whether to go to the ER, Dr. Cameron can help you navigate your decision. Dr. Cameron will do her best to keep you out of the ER or Urgent Care.
What discounted services do you offer?
Members will have access to significantly discounted lab tests and imaging and may be able to purchase some medications at wholesale pricing.
Do you take private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare?
We do not. It seems like any time you go to the doctor these days, instead of “hi, how are you?” the first question you are asked is “what insurance do you have?” We forgo insurance reimbursements in order to save our patients from the arbitrary, intrusive decisions that come along with using insurance. By instead charging a direct monthly fee, we are free from the typical contractual agreements that prevent non-DPC medical providers from offering wholesale prices on laboratory tests, imaging, and medications.
If I pay for a monthly membership, do I still need insurance?
We do NOT bill insurance, and insurance is not required for membership. We advise patients to obtain at least a catastrophic plan to cover unanticipated and very costly medical services such as surgery or a hospitalization. High deductible commercial insurance plans or health-sharing plans pair nicely with our Direct Primary Care model.
What if I am in need of medical attention while I am away from home?
Many conditions can be diagnosed and treated via a simple conversation by phone or video conference. If indicated, we can even prescribe you medication. If you need to go to the hospital or seek other medical care while you are out of town, we can advise you on that as well.
Are KCDPC’s monthly fees eligible for HSA or FSA reimbursement?
Many patients find that their DPC fees are reimbursable through their HSA or FSA. Consult your tax advisor for guidance on your particular circumstances.
Do I really get to speak to my doctor if I call?
Yes. During business hours, you may book an appointment through our website to discuss any issue or concern you may have. Text messages will be responded to during business hours as well. Texting directly with Dr. Cameron is only available for members and ONLY during business hours.
What if the doctor is out of town and I need to speak to her?
If Dr. Cameron is on vacation, she will continue to provide and coordinate your care. When possible, she will arrange for another physician to see you if needed.
Does Dr. Cameron offer in-person emergency services outside of normal business hours?
As a standard part of her practice, Dr. Cameron does not routinely offer such services. What she will do is help you decide whether an emergency room visit is necessary or whether she may be able to provide you with care as early as possible on the next business day. If you can avoid a trip to the ER even one time, your yearly DPC membership fee will pay for itself.
Will my medical records be shared with insurance carriers or government agencies?
No. Your patient privacy is very important to us, and being able to protect it is one of the natural benefits of our medical model. Unless you have specifically requested it or KCDPC is subject to a subpoena or search warrant, we will never share your medical records with a third party.
If I’m an employer, how would a DPC model benefit my employees?
Competing for employees as a small business owner is tough in today’s market. An attractive benefits package is important and can help distinguish you from the rest. Adding direct primary care as a healthcare benefits option provides affordable and accessible care with continuity for both the employee and their whole family. By addressing the health of your employees from a preventative standpoint, we can help keep your employees healthier overall, decrease their need for medications and hospitalizations, and aim for less time away from work.

Direct Primary Care in Action
Worth the investment
I have a rash
With traditional insurance-based models, an in person office visit would be required. With DPC, you can text a picture to your doctor, and in most cases, initiate the appropriate treatment right away.
I just found out I have diabetes, but I don’t have insurance.
Uninsured patient had lab work completed at an ER and was found to have a new diagnosis of diabetes. The patient’s very own doctor discussed nutrition with the patient and started her on insulin (thanks to a local direct care pharmacy that got a $1000/mo medication for this pt for $33/mo). The same pharmacist also spent >1 hr teaching this non-English speaking patient how to use a glucometer and track her blood sugars. The patient’s 3-month blood sugar improved from 13.3 to 6.0.
My child’s throat has been hurting. She’s been around several people with strep.
Parent texts picture to physician. If concerns for strep, physician stops by the patient’s home to do a quick strep test. If positive, treatment is initiated, and the family never had to leave their home or make extra arrangements to take time off work.
I need a work note
Call your doctor and have a brief conversation. As long as within reason, your work note will be written and sent without you having to come in to the office.
My son stepped on piece of glass yesterday.
Family is on the family plan. Doctor already manages dad’s blood pressure and mom’s mood. Son seen for a home visit later the same day, saving the family a trip to the ER. While visiting, the doctor was able to take a peek in little brother’s ears, as he had been complaining of ear pain. Family never had to leave their home.
My heart has been racing
Previously healthy 55yo female calls to say her heart has been pounding over the last few weeks. She put on her husband’s apple watch, which told her she was in a. fib (an abnormal heart rhythm). She was seen by her doctor the same day where an EKG confirmed atrial fibrillation, and treatment options were discussed. Given the patient’s stability and her desire to avoid the emergency room and hospitalization, she was monitored for a few hours by her own doctor, and oral medications were initiated. She was personally referred to a cardiologist, who was able to complete an ECHO (ultrasound of the heart) the next day and see her in the cardiology clinic for a consultation later the same week. DPC for the win!
What People Say:

“[Dr. Cameron,] you are the first and only physician who has ever helped me.”
Anonymous Patient
“[Dr.] Cameron has been the best doctor I have come in contact with, and I didn’t even know she was a doc when I met her. GET THIS: she actually listens to what her patients say, and she validates us in a way that is real…”

DPC vs Traditional Insurance
| Direct Primary Care | Traditional Insurance | |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Call or text anytime, 7 days/wk | Only available during business hours |
| Services | Unhurried appointments focused on YOU and YOUR health care needs | Time is spent on insurance, billing, the computer, checking boxes, paperwork, and government red tape instead of on you |
| Support | If not the same day then see your physician via telemedicine the following day or in person on the next business day | First available is next week, if you’re lucky, Otherwise wait 2-3 weeks to be seen. It can take up to 4-6 months to get in to see a new PCP |
| Payment Terms | No co-payments, co-insurance, or deductibles | Insurance only pays the doctor for 6 minutes of her overhead per patient visit |
| Liability | Spend enough time to get ALL your questions answered. Get 80% of your health care needs met by one doctor | 6 minutes is not enough time to diagnose everything so specialist referrals are often over-utilized |
| Cost Effective | Uncompromising focus on personalized, high quality care at a reasonable price | Bring your calculator with you to add up all the cost |
| Members | Limited number of members, allowing physician to provide high quality care while maintaining accessibility | Typical PCP has a panel of 2,000-4,000 patients |
